Housing Support Program

Housing Support Program

Our Housing Support* Program provides intensive case management to Durham Region’s most at-risk and high needs homeless youth.

The Housing Support Coordinator works closely with the youth to address their immediate needs and then helps them progress towards greater housing stability. This includes assisting youth in securing and maintaining long-term housing and helping connect them to mental health and addiction, legal, financial and employment supports.

Research has shown that similar programs improve the chances of youth to break the cycle of poverty and learn how to be self-sufficient enough to live on their own.

For more information, please call the Housing Support Coordinator at 289-388-8179.

*Participants in our Housing Support program come from the Region of Durham’s By-Name List.

The “By-Name List” is run by Durham Region and is one of the tools our community uses to coordinate access to housing. It is a real-time, up-to-date list of people known to be experiencing homelessness in Durham Region. The By-Name List process improves coordination among agencies and provides streamlined access to community supports. Individuals on the By-Name List are strategically prioritized based on needs and capabilities (e.g. ability to live on their own).

Durham Youth Services is both an Access Point to the By-Name List and a provider of housing for youth on the By-Name List.
