Nightstop
Durham Youth Services is proud to be expanding Nightstop in Canada.
Durham Youth Services has been accredited as the second Nightstop provider in Canada. Nightstop places young people in a safe and warm home for the night, provided by a vetted and approved volunteer.
It prevents young people from sleeping on the streets, “couch surfing”, or staying in unsuitable accommodations where they would be at risk of abuse. The use of spare rooms in a positive environment makes a huge difference to young people in crisis.
Nightstop is an alternative to shelter that adopts a preventative approach to homelessness by intervening at an early stage of crisis in order to help youth secure safe temporary housing, avoiding the shelter system or sleeping “rough” on the streets.
Nightstop relies on our community of volunteers with space in their homes and their hearts. We are always looking for hosts, volunteer drivers as well as donations.
If you are interested in applying, please download the Host or Driver application and email to Nightstop@durhamyouth.com
Or, if you would like more information, please complete the form below and our team member will contact you.
Open your heart to a youth in need
If you are unable to volunteer, but would like to support our Nightstop program, please consider donating towards one night of safety.
