We are so grateful to our community for supporting Durham Youth Services so our doors can be open for youth experiencing homelessness.
General Support
We provide a range of programs that serve the needs of youth who are currently experiencing homelessness (Joanne’s House emergency shelter), at risk of becoming homeless (Youth Reconnect Program), or ready to take steps towards independent living (Transitional Housing and Housing First for Youth).
Your support today can provide a youth with …
$30 A warm and comfy blanket for one of our shelter beds
$50 One week of nourishing, hot lunches for a youth staying at our shelter
$100 A change of clothing, personal care items and laundry facilities
$250 Practical items to increase job readiness such as: an interview outfit, work clothing and transit passes
Care & Comfort
A donation to our Care & Comfort Fund helps us to cover expenses for unfunded healthcare services and special items that bring comfort to youth. In many instances, eye exams, glasses, dental exams and therapy sessions are not covered by insurance. And sometimes a specific item such as art supplies or a personal journal brings comfort to a youth experiencing a stressful situation.
Your support today can provide a youth with…
$30 Over-the-counter healthcare items
$50 An art therapy kit, book, or other personal comfort item
$100 New eyeglasses
$250 Counseling sessions with a local provider
Fresh Start Kit
When we help a youth find affordable housing, they are excited about moving into their new place, but also feel overwhelmed about all the basics they will need. In order to keep the youth focused on the positive steps they are taking, we provide them with as many of the essential as possible to make a ‘fresh start’.
Your support today can provide a youth with…
$30 Laundry and cleaning essentials.
$50 Kitchen basics such as food preparation and food storage items.
$100 A food basket or food gift card to a youth transitioning to independence
$250 Housing basics such as cookware, bedding, bath towels and accessories.
Nightstop
Nightstop provides a short-term safe alternative to homelessness for youth in need.
A youth in the Nightstop program is placed with vetted and approved Host Volunteers who live in the community and are given a safe place to sleep, access to laundry and bathroom facilities, three meals (dinner, breakfast, and a packed lunch), as well as transportation support.
Your donation of $35 helps keep a vulnerable young person off the street, out of a shelter and in a safe, supportive home environment for one night.

Monthly Donation
Helping youth throughout the year who struggle with homelessness requires planning, and Monthly Donors provide the ongoing support we can count on. Your monthly gift helps to fund safe shelter, nutritious food, family reconnection, and life skills workshops to support our young people in successfully transitioning to a new life.
